Jean Paul Gaultier’s New Coke Bottle Revealed!

Despite Coca-Cola’s several collaborations with designers and artists to produce fresh bottle images, it’s preeminent brand signature — the shape of its bottle — is never out shined.

Handmade Greeting: 2011 Christmas Card (ta! da!)

I finished sending the first batch of holiday cards to friends and family last week. I’ll be sending the second batch tomorrow. This is an exciting time for me. I love wrapping gifts, making cards and most importantly, the holiday and new year cards I purchased at discounted prices throughout the year redeem their value and reward me for my early holiday preparation.

It may seem silly to buy holiday cards in March and April despite their discount, and many naysayers who see me shop probably think to themselves that I’ll only lose the cards before Christmas. But I know better. I feel great about not spending a dime on holiday cards especially because some of the finer paper cost a fortune!

That said, I have to admit I did spend under ten bucks on blank envelopes and blank cards to design a Christmas card for my etsy.com shop.

Since most cards during the holidays (appropriately) look frosty and frigid, I decided to use warm tones this holiday.
Are you sending Christmas cards this year?
If holiday cards aren’t in the budget this year, one great option is to spend time designing and personalizing e-Cards. PaperlessPost.com has tons of stylish options for free!

Have a warm and safe holiday season, everyone!

About: Sepia Smiles, etsy.com friend – (images) Re-Post

(re-post)
One of the best things about blogging is meeting people with similar interests.  Roseanna, owner of Sepia Smiles, is one of those people whose interests and styles we find inspiring.  We’re lucky to have met her through our blogging adventures.

Roseanna’s aesthetic is simple, clean, restrained femininity.  Her pastel color schemes and collection of vintage household items is an elegant interpretation of Anthropologie’s “country chic”.

The Sepia Smiles “look” is apparent in Roseanna’s interior designs, home decor, hand-made stationery and even her website layout

As you know, we, too, love making stationery, lots of white-space in our design layout, vintage items, and many other things Sepia Smiles finds ‘pretty’…

We look forward to offering Sepia Smiles products on the Pretty Pink Ponies site soon.
Nice job, Roseanna!!!

Add character to your suits by adding antique buttons…

…search for buttons on etsy.com or ebay to find good deals…

Wishing for a new suit, but too smart to spend hundreds of dollars?  Ideas:

1.  add beautiful one-of-a-kind buttons to your existing suits.  (i.e. these antique brass buttons are beautiful agains a simple navy jacket)
2.  No time to hunt for vintage buttons?  Got bad taste?  We can help…info@myprettypinkponies.com

We wholeheartedly believe that hand-written notes on elegant stationery is a necessary extravagance…

ponies postage

Older postage stamps that haven’t been cancelled (used) can be combined in value to send mail.  For instance, using vintage postage with regular postage is a great way to add character to your mailings.

Combining postage by theme, color or recipient’s personality and hobbies is a thoughtful gesture which will surely be appreciated.

Choice of notecard design can make a difference, too.  For instance, these watercolor fashion sketches by Christian LaCroix (below) are something you can use to write to your “fashion-forward” friends.

Below is a profound statement on a simple space written using a vintage typewriter (for the non-fluffy types).

Crane’s classic customized stationery is understated which makes it perfect correspondence for new acquaintances and those whose personality you’re not yet sure of.  It’s a bit more formal and has less personality, however, covers a lot of different situations and a ‘must-have’ in your stationery repertoire.

Colorful postcards are fun for writing to children and friends who are kids-at-heart (below).  They’re fun to send as well as to receive as a surprise.

While we love the efficiency technology provides, when connecting with others, everyone appreciates the thoughtful gesture of taking time to put thoughts on paper.  The pen-to-paper medium somehow conveys your message in a “human-way” more accurately than other mediums.

Hand-written notes aren’t always boring.  There are a variety of notecards in the market that suit various needs and personality types.  In the spirit of differentiating yourself, send a thoughtful greeting by mail.

Email and texts have no soul.

Apparently, some topics on our site are…hmmm..what some would consider “not as fun as could be”.

We agree.

We asked our professional make-up artist friend, Miss RubyRedRockstar (aka Farah) for her help.

What a pro.  She’s the best.

RubyRedRockstar (“3R”) is fun, gorgeous and is an award-nominated hair and make-up pro.  She is second-generation film and TV industry talent and has years of professional experience as Depratment Head Make Up Artist for prime-time television shows (read: she knows what she’s talking about).

(*P.S. Farah is also a great mediator/peace-keeper for misunderstandings among friends.  Thanks for adding levity to our lives, Farah.)

Anyhoo, Farah writes to you, readers, with tips on how to get a pretty sun-kissed So Cal glow.

FROM FARAH (below):

Hello sexy ladies!

In the olden days it wasn’t considered attractive to have tan skin [insert source here].
Today no man wants to see your “paste-y” ass [replace “ass” with a rated-PG term] in a bikini. But a free ticket to the skin cancer clinic isn’t the only way to be a bronzed goddess — you can achieve the same St. Tropez-vacation glow with self tanners!!!

The latest self-tanners are flawless. Technological and scientific advancement don’t just benefit boring industries like farming and the energy sector — they also benefit the gorgeous!!!

(Farah in glasses = very smart.  Notice her thinking as she looks to the camera during a soliloquy)

Lindsay Lohan may like her self tanner so orange it matches her fire crotch, but YOU don’t have to. (Nor do you have to have to be the smelly kid no one wants to sit next to).

My favorite self tanner, Kate Sommerville’s tan towels, are available at Sephora. (Spoiler: They are not cheap).

Although there are cheaper options available, the benefits from these KS tan towels make the additional cost worth it.  One, they have no odor.  Second, their result is a natural and pretty sun-kissed color.  And, last, the tan lasts at least five days!!!

Bronzed babes (Farah on the right)

Here’s some pointers on how to apply the product to produce picture-perfect-pretty results:

1. lather your body with an emollient moisturizer paying special attention to your knees, hands, and feet.

2. apply the self-tanner using your “tan towel”to your chest, then your neck.
(Note:  you can use it on your moisturized face and the tan is subtle and beautiful)
**The trick with any self tanner is rubbing the same places over and over ad nauseam to prevent streaking.
3.  Apply the product around your neck and ears (avoiding your hairline)
4. When you get to your hands, either stop at wrists or make a tight fist and just do the top of the hands before the knuckles.

5. Apply the same principle above to apply the self-tanner around the feet, stoping before you reach your toes.
6.  Apply product to your knees rubbing vigorously over and over (make sure your knees are bent).

**Try to reserve different sections of the tan towel for certain areas. This will guarantee one towel tans the whole body.**

7. Continue to apply the solution to the same spots. Lift your arms and make sure you get the underside of your forearms and upper arms.

The Kate Sommerville Tan Towels dry quickly so you can dress almost immediately.

Be SURE to wash the palms of your hands really well after.

Good luck!

happy Friday, everybody!!!  writing to share an option for you this weekend:  New Arctic Fox Pups Arrive at Aquarium of the Pacific

how are these pups relevant to our general topic themes?  um…they’re pretty and wear amazing outfits!!!

Aquarium of the Pacific Artic Wolf Pup4
The Aquarium of the Pacific has welcomed two male six-week-old Arctic Fox pups that are now on view in the Aquarium’s Molina Animal Care Center. The two brothers are part of the Aquarium of the Pacific’s new Arctic & Antarctic: Our Polar Regions in Peril exhibition, which gives the public the opportunity to see polar animals up close while learning about what can be done to protect their habitats.

New Arctic Fox Pups Arrive at Aquarium of the Pacific:

Arctic fox babies are called either pups or kits. A litter usually has about seven kits but may contain up to fifteen. The Arctic fox is an incredibly resilient animal that can live in temperatures as low as -59° F and as warm as temperatures we experience in Southern California. They are found in the Arctic and alpine tundra regions, from coastal Alaska and Greenland to Scandinavia and Russia.
It survives in extreme temperatures thanks to its thick fur, furry soles, short ears, and short muzzle. During the winter months, white phase Arctic fox have white coats that serve as camouflage against the vast stretches of snow and ice in their native Arctic region. When the seasons change, their coats change to a brown or blue-gray appearance that allows them to blend in with the summer’s landscape. Blue phase fox, more common in the species’ southern habitat range, remain charcoal-colored year round. Young of each color phase may occur in the same litter.
These mammals have keen hearing and normally feed mainly on rodents along with birds, and even fish. When prey is scarce in the winter, these foxes often follow polar bears to eat their leftover scraps, sometimes traveling great distances. Their average lifespan in the wild is three to six years. As an adult, an Arctic fox can weigh up to seventeen pounds.
Climate change poses a threat to the Arctic fox, impacting their habitat and food sources. Consequently the International Union for Conservation of Nature has included them on their Red List of Threatened Species and on a list of ten species that are most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change.”

Office Space (images)

What does each space tell you about its inhabitant?

What is your office’s primary function?
Does it reflect your professionalism and the good work you produce?
Does it have an effective organizing system?
Does it provide comfortable seating for guests, clients, prospective clients?
Does your space inspire creativity, focus, motivation?
Have you eliminated distractions?
Do you and others respect the space as a designated work area?
How does it help you accomplish your goals?
What personal items remind you of your values?
How does it deter “time-wasting” colleagues?
Is there consistency in the message your office conveys?…Or, does it talk too much without getting to the “point”?

How not to be a walking cliche this Spring…

(i.e. be open to viewing silhouettes, fabrics and colors that are not your ‘go-to’)

(do not accessorize with farm animals)
I’m not suggesting to wear images from billboards verbatim…but exposing oneself to something seemingly less familiar can help you cultivate your personal taste while allowing yourself to feel comfortable wearing a variety of styles.
