Great question. (via @RonaldSkelton) #Responsible #Consumerism

Look at the last thing you bought, what problem did it solve, what benefit did you buy?

— Ronald Skelton (@ronaldskelton) May 6, 2012

How much thought do we put into where we spend our time, energy and money? Do you consider how the product in your shopping basket got to your hand? How was it manufactured? Whose idea was it to create this? What was intended when the decision to produce the product was made?

Let us know — do you think it matters???

We encourage you to pause and think about what message you’re helping create each time you make a purchase or decision. What you buy makes a bigger statement than you think — it supports ideas, practices and institutions. Be smart. Choose wisely.

Thanks for stopping by.

All the best,

Cool, Determined and Entrepreneurial: Etsy Community Strategist, Morgan Evans is awesome!

The Pink Ponies Etsy team is honored to have been invited to tonight’s Etsy dinner by Morgan Evans, Community Strategist for Etsy , the global online marketplace for handmade goods and antiques.

“Cool, Determined and Under 30” (via Inc. magazine)

Tonight we met inspiring local entrepreneurs who create and sell handmade goods via their online store on Etsy. These Los Angeles creatives utilize technology and the platform provided by Etsy to lead teams of like-minded sellers.

We don’t necessarily think about the handmade goods seller when the word “entrepreneur” is used, however, these small business owners aren’t sitting around bedazzling for nothing — they make it rain!

Stay tuned for more feedback and some background on the L.A. – based Etsy Entrepreneurs in an upcoming post!

HOME OFFICE vs. CORPORATE OFFICE – What’s your style???

CORPORATE OFFICE:

My office at home is different from my office at the workplace.
In the workplace, my goal was to maintain an efficient space with all the things I use on a regular basis close at hand.
I took care to create an efficient system that made it easy for me to reach for files, writing tools and other items I used several times/day.

I took care to make sure the items on my desk absolutely needed:  Cordless keypad, mouse, notebook, phone and lamp.  I also had one ceramic bud vase for the occasional flower I’d bring to the office with me to remind me of my balcony garden.

I also kept one of several piggy [mouse] banks on my desk for loose change.  A “savings account” for daily treats to the vending machine.

The space was efficient and allowed for quick storage, shredding completed tasks, quick-access to relevant information and sufficient lighting.

I kept a nice, firm flannel pillow on an ergonomic chair to support my lower back…

Overall, my work-space was devoid of my outside-of-work personality – which is quite different from my office at home.

OFFICE AT HOME:

Although I tote around my macbook and work anywhere and in every coffeeshop in the city, my office at home is mainly for thoughtful hand-written notes and a space to read…

(vases for sale on etsy)

golds, ambers, warm colors…
a beautiful and comfortable chair is essential.

antique pencils, modern lighting, notebook, mirror (of course)…

…piggy bank, make up brush, pens, postage, clock…

box of stationery, golden ginko-leaf letter opener, Graphic Image notebook…

sentimental items of significance

…cuban cigar box filled with drawing supplies (charcoal pencils, erasers, leather notebook)…

…colored pens for highlighting…

Rebecca Minkoff leather kindle case…

moleskin-like dodocase (for kindle)…

I’m curious about your workspace…What do you keep on your desk at the office?  What does it say about you?  Is it similar to your office space at work?

Professional Baggage: A Pretty Pink Ponies Presentation (video)

My holiday wishlist this year : tools to increase productivity while organizing business files. Have you seen Clooney in Up In the Air?. *Hint: beautiful like Grace Kelly, but more utilitarian than a Navy Seal.

As you probably know, professional presentation is a priority for Pretty Pink Ponies.
Professional presentation may seem like a bunch of fluff to some, but how you organize yourself and your business documents and tech tools reflects your ambition, success and how seriously you view yourself as a professional.
Obviously, a young woman who is well-groomed, well-mannered and polished non-verbally communicates that she’s on the ball and manages her life in an effective way. How you store your documents, gadgets and files reflects your ability to handle chaos and prioritize efficiently.
It’s not about being “pretty”, it’s more a matter of having an understanding that you’re a seasoned pro and not a naive rookie.
It has been studied and discussed ad nauseam that we are judged by how we are perceived. You might as well do what you can to ensure your image consistently reiterates your professionalism and effectiveness.
Hope you’re having a great weekend!

Holiday Gifts (for your tech gadgets)…

When you spend as much time on your laptop and iPhone as I do, they become extensions of yourself, then, sadly, your closest “friends”.

Consequently, I feel compelled to give gifts to my gadget “friends” this holiday…(Well, ok…perhaps these are actually gifts to myself).

In any case, here are some super adorable tech gadget accessories I discovered online.

happy Friday, everybody!!!  writing to share an option for you this weekend:  New Arctic Fox Pups Arrive at Aquarium of the Pacific

how are these pups relevant to our general topic themes?  um…they’re pretty and wear amazing outfits!!!

Aquarium of the Pacific Artic Wolf Pup4
The Aquarium of the Pacific has welcomed two male six-week-old Arctic Fox pups that are now on view in the Aquarium’s Molina Animal Care Center. The two brothers are part of the Aquarium of the Pacific’s new Arctic & Antarctic: Our Polar Regions in Peril exhibition, which gives the public the opportunity to see polar animals up close while learning about what can be done to protect their habitats.

New Arctic Fox Pups Arrive at Aquarium of the Pacific:

Arctic fox babies are called either pups or kits. A litter usually has about seven kits but may contain up to fifteen. The Arctic fox is an incredibly resilient animal that can live in temperatures as low as -59° F and as warm as temperatures we experience in Southern California. They are found in the Arctic and alpine tundra regions, from coastal Alaska and Greenland to Scandinavia and Russia.
It survives in extreme temperatures thanks to its thick fur, furry soles, short ears, and short muzzle. During the winter months, white phase Arctic fox have white coats that serve as camouflage against the vast stretches of snow and ice in their native Arctic region. When the seasons change, their coats change to a brown or blue-gray appearance that allows them to blend in with the summer’s landscape. Blue phase fox, more common in the species’ southern habitat range, remain charcoal-colored year round. Young of each color phase may occur in the same litter.
These mammals have keen hearing and normally feed mainly on rodents along with birds, and even fish. When prey is scarce in the winter, these foxes often follow polar bears to eat their leftover scraps, sometimes traveling great distances. Their average lifespan in the wild is three to six years. As an adult, an Arctic fox can weigh up to seventeen pounds.
Climate change poses a threat to the Arctic fox, impacting their habitat and food sources. Consequently the International Union for Conservation of Nature has included them on their Red List of Threatened Species and on a list of ten species that are most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change.”

what’s more ridiculous than seeing a prettypinkpony walking around Larchmont Village talking on the phone using a large red handset?  suggesting you do the same.

something to consider if:

  • you’re concerned about radiation transmission from your cell phone to your head
  • want to draw attention to yourself
  • want to speak on a cordless phone handset connected to your charging blackberry
  • or, any combination of the above..
